California is electing a new governor this year. We invite you to use this election as a springboard for writing with your students about the issues that matter most to them through the California Writing Project Dear Gov Project!
Dear Gov is an initiative developed by the California Writing Project to foster authentic and creative civically engaged writing with students across the state from kindergarten through university level. Your students will have the opportunity to raise their voices to inform policymakers and community leaders about their dreams for the future of California.
Student writing will be shared not only with the incoming governor’s staff but also with local and statewide outlets, and publicly on the Dear Gov website.
CWP leaders have spent the summer developing resources to support you in integrating Dear Gov into your curriculum. Whether you have one class period or an entire unit to work with, Dear Gov can fit into your practice! Students can submit letters, poetry, art, podcasts, stories, or whatever format they prefer to express what they care about.
Visit the CWP Dear Gov site to explore the resources and access the student submission portal:

We hope you’ll join us in creating a statewide collection of student voices and ideas for California’s future.
Please share Dear Gov widely!
