Join the California Subject Matter Project in our cross-disciplinary conference focused on inquiry-based learning for Transitional Kindergarten/Pre-Kindergarten students. With UTK creating space for our youngest learners, it is time that educators gather together to share ideas and resources. Ethnic Studies Critical Literacies Institute

July 17-28, 2023

The California History-Social Science Project, Bay Area Writing Project, and Area 3 Writing Project present a two-week professional development workshop for K-12 teachers that focuses on examining critical literacies in Ethnic Studies. Join teachers from both the Greater Sacramento and Bay Areas as take a deep dive into Ethnic Studies pedagogy and praxis.

Topics to Include:

  • Reading & reflect on scholarship that supports Ethnic Studies instruction
  • Participate in discussions & workshops around content knowledge, self-reflection, theory, & praxis

CSMP Computer Science Integration - Explore the Standards

Join us for the second webinar about how Computer Science concepts and principles can be integrated into instruction in your subject area. As you know the world is rapidly changing. Tools like AI are no longer in the future, they are part of our present and future. Our schools need to adapt with the times and part of that adaptation is equipping students with the knowledge the need to navigate the current and future landscapes. One of the best ways to update instruction is not to throw out old subjects but to adapt them keep them relevant.

The CA K-12 Computer Science Standards were adopted to help direct the evolution of schooling. Join us for a discussion of what are in the standards and how can these be integrated into all subjects that we teach.

Apply to join the Bay Area Science Project's year-long online professional learning community. This opportunity is for all high school science teachers (biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, environmental science, etc.).

Collaborate with expert scientists and educators from the University of California, Berkeley to support the integration of climate and global change lessons into instructional units. Inquiry and the Role of Writing in Antiracist and Culturally Sustaining Curriculum and Instruction

Orientation: One Saturday in May 2023

Hybrid Institute: M-F: June 19-23, M-Th: June 26-29, 2023

Inquiry and the Role of Writing in Antiracist and Culturally Sustaining Curriculum and Instruction is an Invitational Summer Institute (ISI) for the Central Writing Project that will be held in a hybrid format this summer. Applications are due May 5, 2023, and there is NO FEE for participation, selected participants will receive a $1000 fellowship for asynchronous and synchronous professional learning. Educators of all grade levels and subject matters who are willing to share their expertise and learn from others are invited to apply. Inquiry-focused sessions will include topics such as anti-racism; activism; supporting language learners; affective/emotional writing; environmental literacy and justice; critical literacy; and purposeful, meaningful, content-focused writing instruction and curriculum. Re-thinking Social Studies in the Elementary Classroom: Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening

The California Reading and Literature Project (CRLP), the Area 3 Writing Project, and the California History-Social Science Project (CHSSP) are collaborating to host a FREE four-part workshop series about rethinking social studies in the elementary classroom.

Each Session will integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills and involve content such as current events, civics, Native Americans, monthly themes, and more.

Join colleagues from around the state to discuss recent developments and set priorities. Additionally, these sessions are free thanks to special CSMP funds that support learning acceleration
