New Arts Framework

In 2020, the State Board of Education adopted California Arts Education Framework for Public Schools, Transitional Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve (Arts Framework). The pandemic caused us to pause the rollout to consider how to best serve teachers and students across the state. Through the collaborative efforts of The California Arts Project, CCSESA Statewide Arts Initiative, and the CDE, we created a CA Arts Education Framework Resources for Implementation Hub Site, which includes videos of the March 1, 2022, virtual launch of the California Arts Education Framework. You can view the California Arts Education Framework Virtual Launch in several ways: the entire event video is provided without breaks, or you can select videos that focus on key topics. There are three topical videos from which you can choose: first, the Overview, Purpose, and Development of the California Arts Education Framework; second, the California Arts Education Framework Chapter Highlights; and third, the Equity in Arts Education and Supporting All Learners.

The pandemic drastically changed how we teach content, engage with our students, and develop our professional lives. We paused the 2020 rollout and committed to learning how we could best serve teachers by collecting data on their experiences, needs, and changing environment of education. After sending surveys to 1200 teachers and administrators, conducting 24 small group sessions, we compiled and interpreted the data into a literature review with recommendations to support professional learning and for rolling out the Framework. We also created resources to help teachers and administrators implement the framework in your classroom. These include the first set of six infographics and four slide decks to support implementation.
